Most of my life I have had problems with constipation, bloating and gas.

I have tried a high-fiber diet includinglarge amounts of oatmeal, apples, vegetables, tons of water, etc but nothing seemed to work.

I have had great results, however,  from a company called diverticulitisinfo.com. I ordered (one of ) their diverticulitus kits and faithfully follow the regimen daily.

It took about four days to start seeing results. It s hard to believe that for the  first time in years my digestion and elimination have returned to normal.

I feel so much better!

Paula,
Just wanted to let you know that it has only been a few days on your products but my bloating and cramping is all gone! It seemed almost immediate when I took the homeopathic drops!
I will keep you posted.
Thanks!
FN

...many years ago I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, and once my doctor discovered it was not cancer, I didn t get much  help.
I suffered for years with inflamation, bloating and cramping, and other (worse) symptoms.

Diet? I agree that eating what you want is likely to lead to disaster if you like the wrong things (like me)! I m afraid I m not the most diligent, but I m pretty sure that milk products and sugar aggravate the condition so I try to limit these. Fatty foods also aren t helpful.
After many years of suffering and trying various medicine and many home remedies I found homeopathy and though I did not believe anything could help me, I tried it, and  have been so much better since taking your products, especially the IBS supports!
I am so relieved and feel I am walking towards a new, happy, healthy beginning. Things look different now and that for me is the best!
Thank You, Paula. God Bless You.
C.P.

"I have been so impressed with Divercalm (Support Botanicals) and the Enteric Coated Peppermint Oil. I noticed an immediate difference - after one dose! I will continue to use them and would highly recommend the products to anyone. Thank you for such a great and helpful product!" W.T.

Don't:

  • Drink caffeine (in coffee, tea and cola)
  • Drink alcohol
  • Eat dairy products like milk, cheese, and ice cream
  • Eat cured or smoked meat like sausage or ham
  • Eat fatty and greasy foods (but take your Omegas!)
  • Use sweeteners, like fructose, high-fructose corn sweetner, sorbitol, xylitol, and mannitol.

Do:

  • Eat more fiber. Fiber is found in whole food like vegetables, fruit and whole grains. Eat organic when possible. (See the section The Importance of Fiber )
  • Eat small meals but more often. Eat the same amount of food, just smaller amounts at a time (every 2 hours works for most). Consuming larger meals at once can cause bowel cramps and diarrhea.
  • Eat foods that make your stools bulkier. Soluble fiber slows down the emptying of your bowel. Foods with soluble fiber include potatoes, rice, bananas, smooth peanut butter, yogurt, pasta, apple sauce.
  • Drink more water. Drink eight glasses of water a day to keep properly hydrated and to keep your stools formed and not hard. It is best not to drink WITH your meals. (You don t need to hurry your food through the digestive tract!). It is best to drink your water ½ to 1 hour before or after eating. (See the section The Importance of Water )

Tired of the pain and embarrassing symptoms? Order a Kit for rapid relief and restoration to normalcy. Almost everyone will benefit from  the Healthy Bowel Support and even those with severe conditions can tolerate the homeopathic remedies!

A Word about Constipation:

The definition of constipation is when you don t have a normal bowel movement on a regular basis, often enough and/or the stools  are hard, dry and difficult to pass.

Many experience constipation due to current or past use of medications, especially opiates. Dehydration and changes in diet and activity can also lead to constipation. When stool moves slowly through the digestive tract, too much water is absorbed from the stool, and it becomes hard and dry, which then becomes Gradual enlargement of the rectum and poor coordination of the pelvic and anal muscles sometimes contribute to or cause constipation. Sometimes a combination of these occurs.

Diet and Homeopathy (see Homeopathy Overview) have been the most successful for long term balance for most issues with constipation. Fiber and increasing water in the diet is important. One easy, nutritious way to do this is by adding ground Chia seeds  to your diet which is high in fiber, Omega 3 s and helps to hydrate the bowel and stool. Many with long term, resistant constipation  have found a complete turnaround with a gluten free diet rather than just taking something. Taking laxatives (natural or otherwise)  is like putting a 'band-aid' on a problem. You may feel better temporairily but it does NOT correct the cause of the problem. The  bowels need to be healed and start working on there own, without stimulation. Increasing your activity with more exercise is very  helpful as it increases the peristaltic action of the bowel thus helping in elimination. Using the appropriate herbs (not the harsh  laxative type) and homeopathics will get the bowels responding in a normal fashion again.

Over use of Laxatives:

7 things to do for normal, regular bowels

Eliminating food waste from our bodies is essential to health and survival. It has been estimated that 200 million dollars a year is spent on laxatives in the U.S. alone!

There are basically 4 types of laxatives:

A. Stimulants such as phenolphthalein, cascara sagrada, castor oil.

B. Lubricants like dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate and mineral oil.

C. Saline cathartics, magnesium sulphate and milk of magnesia.

D. Bulk agents, methylcellulose, psyllium seed, chia seed.

Laxative abuse occurs when a person overuses laxatives in an attempt to have normal or more frequent bowel movements.  The chronic use of such actually causes more constipation and the ever increasing need for stronger and stronger purges to get the same effect. Some are those who suffer from related health/addiction type issues such as bulimia and anorexia abuse laxatives in an attempt to hurry the food through their systems before they absorb the calories. Some abuse them in the misguided belief that it will lead to weight loss. There are those who physically become dependent on laxatives because of ongoing constipation. After using the laxatives for an extended period of time their bodies become dependent on them and they no longer have normal peristaltic activity (intestinal paralysis) unless stimulated.

There are serious health complications from laxative abuse including dehydration, mineral loss and imbalance, electrolyte  imbalance, nausea, vomiting, mal absorption and malnutrition. Chronic diarrhea can result from overuse. Kidney stones and kidney  failure have also resulted from laxative abuse.  Constant use of laxatives can damage the muscles of the bowel and lead to colon  cancer.

The body (and bowel) is meant to work correctly and on its own.  Sometimes because of poor diet (low fiber), certain medications and other physical and/or metabolic conditions the use of laxatives or bulk agents may be needed temporarily but the  goal should always be to return the bowels to a normal condition and have them start working correctly and on their own again!
Make sure you are:

1)      Drinking plenty of water daily 8 or more glasses.
2)
Eat more fresh, raw fruit and vegetables daily (2 cups raw vegetables and 2 fruits).
3)
      Eat only whole grains
4)
Cut out white food (white bread, white pasta, sugar, milk)
5)
Exercise a minimum of 4 times weekly for ½ hour or more.
6)
Add in prebiotics to repair the bowel and probiotics for continued bowel health and regularity. (Like in the
Healthy Bowel Support  found at www.diverticulitisinfo.com).
7)
Check for food sensitivities (wheat, dairy and gluten to start).

If you have tried all the above measures with little to no improvement homeopathy may start the healing process and the above  1-7 will maintain it. Remember, basically you want to eat like we did 100 years ago before we had fast, processed foods.

If you feel that you have an addiction (or over use) of laxatives, there are natural alternatives to repair the colon. Be careful using  harsh substances and herbs. The goal is not just to get cleaned out but to have the body work normally&on its own.

A Word about Diarrhea:
Diarrhea is when one has 3 or more loose or liquid stools per day. It can be caused by bacterial, viral and parasitic organisms and  is also a common complaint in bowel disorders, either alone or alternating with constipation.

Acute Diarrhea:
Severe diarrhea can lead to dehydration, nutritional and weight loss. Acute diarrhea usually lasts less than 2 weeks, and is often  associated with abdominal cramping, bloating, and gas. Although usually mild, acute diarrhea can lead to dehydration because of  large fluid and electrolyte loss. Medications like antibiotics and drugs that contain magnesium products can also cause bouts of  diarrhea. Recent drastic dietary changes as in dietetic foods, artificial sweeteners, increased caffeine such as coffee and sodas can also lead to acute diarrhea. Intestinal infections are a frequent cause of diarrhea.

There are over 400 different bacteria that live quietly in the large intestine and provide benefit to the digestive tract. There are also  many viruses and other infectious agents that can infiltrate our bodies and cause diarrhea. Fortunately, most of the time these  infections come and go on their own without treatment. Some bacterial infections, such as salmonella, which often comes from  contaminated poultry, require help. Parasites, such as amoeba and giardia (found in wild animals and in contaminated streams and  well water) attack the intestines and can cause violent diarrhea.

To Do for Acute Diarrhea:

  • Increase your fluid intake up to prevent dehydration and electrolyte loss
  • Avoid dairy products
  • Increase good bowel bacteria (Healthy Bowel Support)
  • Avoid carbonated drinks
  • Avoid hot, spicy foods
  • Eat foods high in Potassium (like bananas)
  • Drink the water off brown or basmati rice. Cook your rice in double the amount of water that you normally use. When it is half way done, drain off the water, let it cool until warm or cool and drink.
  • Drink GingerMango Tea. Add one teaspoonful of ginger juice and 1 tsp. to a 1/2 cup of boiling water and drink warm one per hour.
  • Increase Protein and Carbohydrates. Chicken and turkey are good sources for the protein and potatoes and rice are very good types of carbohydrates.
  • Use gentle Herbs and Homeopathics to balance the system.

Chronic Diarrhea:
There can be several causes of chronic diarrhea. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (see Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Diverticulitis (see Diverticulitis) and Ulcerative Colitis (see Ulcerative Colitis) all have chronic diarrhea associated with them. Intestinal infections (viral  and bacterial) can be a culprit as well as carbohydrate malabsorption such as lactose, sorbitol, fructose and lactose intolerance.  Medications such as antibiotics, antacids, NSAIDs and antihypertensives can cause long term diarrhea in some people.

If you have chronic bloody diarrhea it is most likely due to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) like Ulcerative colitis (see Ulcerative Colitis) or Crohn's disease. Pain while passing a stool usually indicates rectal inflammation.

With chronic diarrhea a full person, holistic approach needs to be implemented. Diet and lifestyle changes will affect the long term  benefit of the individual.
